Markup language

A markup language is a system of tags or codes used to annotate text or data, providing instructions on how the content should be displayed or processed. Markup languages are used to structure documents, such as web pages, and specify elements like headings, paragraphs, links, and images.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is one of the most well-known markup languages used to create web pages. HTML tags like <h1> define headings, <p> define paragraphs, and <a> define links. Another example is XML (eXtensible Markup Language), which is used for data interchange and document structure.

Markup languages provide a standardized way to structure and format content, making it interpretable by both humans and machines.
